Born in Mirebalais, Haïti, Ghislaine Charles is a self-taught painter who followed classes of painting in 1999 with professeur Emmanuel Pierre-Charles and since 2001 with the professor and master painter Khalil Antoniades.
Style : portraits, impressionistic and surrealist Paintings.
Medium : mainly oil painting.
Exhibits: 2008 Germaine-Guèvremont Library of Laval within the framework of Black History Month; several exhibits solo and in group in the grater Montreal region.
Philosophy of the artist: painting is a medium which allows us to translate our moods, to express all the range of our feelings. It is, quite like music, a universal language. In my portraits, I honour the Blacks who have contributed to ennoble our status in the world such as Nelson Mandela, Oscar Peterson and so many others.
I leave to my children and grandchildren our love for painting, our Creole and our West Indian cooking.
