  Michel-Lévy Préval

My name is Michel-Lévy Préval. I was born in Haiti at Petite Riviere de l'Artibonite February 16, 1951. I did my first oil painting at the age of 12. In 1973 I studied at the Foyer of Plastic Arts in the suburb of Carrefour in Haiti. In 1975 I went to New York where I studied Fine Arts at the College of Staten Island and charcoal drawing at the Brooklyn Museum. In 1977, I came to Montreal where I studied graphic arts / commercial art at the College (Salette, 1982) and computer graphics at (Collège de Maisonneuve, 1994).

My concerns in my drawings and paintings, are fundamentally based on a natural tendency to metaphysics and mysticism. I myself was introduced to the Rose + Cross at the age of 21 years in Haiti. That is why, in 1995, I wrote an essay explaining the reason for the ubiquity of balls in my drawings and paintings. We must see the ball and reduce it to its original form is the circle which, in turn, is a symbol of perpetual recommencement of Life in esoteric language. Life from a form to a new waste without ever stopping. As so said the Prophet Muhammad (571-632): "Man is immortal in his spiritual body, which could never." We are all, without exception, eternal beings. However, most of us do not even know it.
