2011 Year of People from African Descent
In celebration of 2011 declared by
the United Nations YEAR OF PEOPLE FROM AFRICAN DESCENT, the Reminiscences Artists, a group of Haitian painters,
sculptors and writers from Quebec invite the public to a cultural encounter and present the paintings of 12 of
their members in a double program.
The first part will take place at the Schomburg Center for
Research on Black Culture, The New York Public Library, 515 Malcom X Boulevard, New York, N.Y. 10037-1801, tel:
212-491-2200 on Friday September 23 from noon to 6:00PM and Saturday September 24 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM.
The second part will take place at the Restaurant Brasserie Creole, 22702 Linden Blvd, Jamaica, N
Y 11411, tel: 718-341-1375 on Sunday September 25 from noon to 6:00PM.
The non-profit
Association, Reminiscences Artists, organized in 2008 has for main objective to maintain and disseminate the
Haitian culture. It also maintains solidarity ties with painters in Haiti through charitable organisations like
FONDAM and donates 5% of the proceeds of their sales to help form the new generation and those left behind.
Dozens of artists are still affected by the January 2010 earthquake and attending this event will support our
efforts to maintain Haitian artistic creativity alive.
